First Cruise, Island Adventures & a 5K: Checking Off My Bucket List

This May, I had the incredible opportunity to go on my very first cruise, a seven-day Caribbean adventure with Rio on the Disney Treasure. It was a trip full of “firsts,” bucket list moments, and unforgettable memories.

Our ship set sail with multiple stops ahead, and each one brought its own kind of magic.

Cozumel, Mexico – Relaxing Onboard

Our first port was Cozumel, Mexico. Since both Rio and I had been to Mexico before, we decided to stay on the ship and take full advantage of the quieter atmosphere while most passengers went ashore. We headed straight to the adult pool and deck area, and it turned out to be the perfect choice.

This was also the only time I got to sneak in some dedicated crochet time during the cruise! I stretched out on a shaded lounger with my project in hand while Rio enjoyed the pool. The warm breeze, ocean views, and rhythmic sound of the waves made it an ideal setting to relax and stitch.

Grand Cayman – Local Art & Island Charm

Next, we arrived at Grand Cayman, where we had to take a small boat (called a tender) to reach the shore. This is done to help preserve the coral reefs, which I thought was really thoughtful and responsible. Once on land, we visited a vibrant craft market where local artisans displayed beautiful handmade goods. We picked up a few unique souvenirs and explored nearby shops. It was a great way to experience a bit of the island’s local flavor.

Falmouth, Jamaica – A Short but Sweet Visit

Our third stop was Falmouth, Jamaica. We stepped off the ship to check out the port’s shops and see what local treasures we could find. The heat that day was intense, so we didn’t stay ashore for long. Still, we managed to purchase some lovely items from local artisans who had booths set up along the sidewalks. Even in our short visit, Jamaica’s spirit and creativity shone through.

Castaway Cay – A Disney Island & Our First 5K

Our final port was Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. We made it a point to get off the ship early because we wanted to do our first ever 5K!

Now, we’re not runners by any stretch, but we walked the entire route together and proudly earned our medals. It was such a fun and motivating experience, and definitely one for the memory books. After the walk, we enjoyed a tasty lunch and did a little shopping before heading back to the ship.

Not only did I go on my first cruise, but I visited beautiful islands, supported local makers, crocheted by the sea, and completed a 5K — all in one week!

What an amazing adventure it was. I’m already dreaming of the next one… wherever it may take me.

Until next time,

~ Belle
