People have many different ways they like to relax after a long day or week of work, for me, it’s crocheting.
I get comfortable in my favorite chair and to get in a more relaxed mindset, I take a few deep breaths to clear my head so I can more easily concentrate on my project. When I’m in the house alone I usually listen to an audiobook, otherwise television is on to whatever we choose for our entertainment.
Once I pick up my hook and yarn, the repetitive, rhythmic motion of crocheting is soothing and meditative. I concentrate on what I’m doing and it helps calm my negative thoughts and emotions. It’s like I get lost in the process and my worries aren’t so important anymore.

As with many things involving repetitive motion, breaks are needed. I try to remember to do this, however, sometimes I get so involved in what I’m doing I may actually forget. My cats seem to know when I need a break, whether I do or not! They hop on my lap and give me a look letting me know it’s break time! I enjoy giving kitty snuggles and hearing their purrs in appreciation for a bit of attention.

For me, crocheting is a therapeutic activity that helps me relax and reduce stress. Crochet combines creativity, focus, and tangible results which are amazing benefits. I feel great joy and accomplishment when I finish a project, especially when it’s a gift for someone.
Is there a craft that helps you relax? I’d like to hear about it in the comments.
Until next time,
