Belle Goes on an Adventure: Kansas City Yarn Crawl 2024 Edition

What an exciting few days for Belle’s Crafting Adventures! The Kansas City Yarn Crawl (KCYC) was held September 19-22, and five local yarn shops in the Kansas City area participated. My daughter, Rio, and I took part in this event visiting all five yarn shops! During the next few weeks, I will go more in-depth about each shop we visited and the yarn dyers we met. So, kick back, relax, and let’s go on an adventure together.

First stop, Knit Ewe Together in Excelsior Springs, MO. Oh my, they have a lot of beautiful yarn! We wanted to support local yarn dyers this weekend. We purchased yarn from New Garden Yarns and Steel Floozy. These two dyers collaborated and had a beautiful 2024 KCYC Colorway Set “Snuggle Up” available. Melissa with New Garden Yarn was at the shop while we were there and I look forward to doing a story on her soon.

We then traveled west to Leavenworth, KS to Momo’s Knitting Nook & Crochet Emporium. It’s really hard to stay on budget with so much beautiful yarn available! Here we purchase yarn from Th’Red Head Designs and Potion Yarns. Johanna with Potion Yarns was there and I look forward to doing a feature on her soon, too.

Onward to “Mass” Street in Lawrence, KS. There is a lot to see in Yarn Barn of Kansas as they cover many crafts including weaving, knitting, and crocheting. We did decide on some yarn from Life’s a Stitch and 316 Dye Studios. From here, we headed back home to regroup and prepare for day two of the KCYC.

Saturday brought some much needed rain during our travels. Our first stop was Yarn Social KC, in Kansas City, MO. This charming shop had a great selection of yarn, books, and notions. We purchased some yarn from Treasure Goddess Yarn and Lichen and Lace that coordinated beautifully together.

The last stop for the KCYC was Unwind Fiber Arts in Lee’s Summit, MO. They also have a beautiful shop full of yarn, books, and notions. We found more yarn from Treasure Goddess Yarn and Ruthie Jane Fibers. I also found a crochet card deck, “Crochet Stitches” by Esme Crick that has 52 cards of crochet textures.

What an exciting two days traveling just over 400 miles to five wonderful local yarn shops. Everyone working at these shops was kind, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. We had a fantastic time and look forward to going back to these shops.

Thanks for spending time with me today.

P.S. – As we were winding the yarn purchased, we realized Lichen and Lace are actually from NB (New Brunswick, Canada). In the store, I totally read that and thought Nebraska even though I know that NE is the abbreviation for Nebraska! Tired eyes and yarn overwhelm played a part in that faux pas, but it gave us a good laugh!

Also, feel free to enjoy a video with more of a look at the Yarn Crawl!
